How to Save Money on My Hawaii Vacation

I am interested in traveling with my family (2 Adults 3 children) to the islands. We are adventurous and outdoors type individuals who would love to explore the tropical beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. Of course, being a sizeable family, money is an object. In other words, we would like to plan our vacation on a reasonable budget. We have gotten a lot of advice from others who have visited, but would like to have some assistance in planning it all, including air fares and accommodations on arrival, as well as suggestions on where we can experience the most at a fair price.

I would appreciate any and all assistance!

This question is really a hard one because it is so broad so I’ll try to point you in the right direction. You are going to spend the most money first on your hotel probably, then on airfare, then on activities and food, then car and souvenirs. Honestly, in my opinion, Oahu - waikiki would be your best choice for a destination because you have the most options, the most people competing for your dollars, etc. You even could take thebus and avoid the car rental fee altogether. You also might want to consider a place with a kitchen, or even a vacation rental, since there are 5 of you. You also might want to look into camping - my friend Cindy wrote an extensive ebook on how to safely camp on Oahu at a certain campground, I did a writeup on it here.

I also wrote up some articles on this subject a while ago here, and here’s some other good links:

  • The last time we stayed in Waikiki we stayed at the Resortquest at the Waikiki Banyan - it’s very family friendly and not right on the beach so rates can be lower. Here’s my writeup on it

I hope you have a wonderful vacation and it doesn’t take too much money out of your pocket!
