How to Beome a Maui Millionaire - The Maui Millionaires Book Review

What would you think if I told you there was a wealth retreat on Maui that ordinary people paid $30,000 to attend? I started reading the book The Maui Millionaires and discovered within the first few pages that such a wealth retreat exists. I was amazed. I thought “anybody who has $30,000 to spend on a wealth retreat doesn’t need to go to a wealth retreat.” Then I read the rest of the book. By about the middle of the book a little voice in the back of my head was clicking off ways that I could come up with $30,000 to attend the retreat myself.

I think this book is a must-read for anyone who knows they are destined for more, for anyone who doesn’t know they are destined for more but wants more anyway, for anyone who feels stuck in a rut, for everyone who knows they will be rich one day, and for anyone who would like to be rich one day. The Maui Millionaires book is not a step-by-step guide to any one strategy for making one million dollars. The Maui Millionaires book does advocate a few methods for making substantial amounts of money, but it does not tell you how to do any of these methods. It’s much bigger than that.

I recently read a book that touted investing your extra money (I know, what extra money?) in the stock market as a way to become rich by retirement age. All of the graphs and figures showed the results of 20, 30, and 40 year investment strategies. The Maui Millionaires authors don’t want you to wait 40 years. This book wants you to be a millionaire in the next couple of years and a multimillionaire as quickly as possible after that. The authors of this book think big and what they really seem to be trying to do with this book is to get you to think big too.

The first thing the book does is point out to you your limiting wealth beliefs and tell you how to replace them with new beliefs that will allow you to become rich. This is very important I think. Me? I’ve always been pretty open to the idea that some day I’ll be rich and I won’t have to work anymore. My husband, and most of my friends on the other hand, all seem to think that the only lifestyle for people like us is to work hard until retirement age. Then, we’ll retire, and live as well as we can on whatever money we managed to save or invest, and what comes in from Social Security and retirement pay. Beliefs like this have got to go! If this is the way we think we needn’t worry about ambitions to earn more, because we wouldn’t even have the motivation to earn more. If we are supposed to just work and work for an hourly wage than why would we ever try or even think we deserved more if we are already working hard?

One of the most incredible concepts I took away from the book was the concept of a mastermind group. Imagine you were at a big party with tons of other people who all had one goal — to get rich. What if each one of those people was perfectly willing to help you get rich because they knew that either you or someone else at the party was going to help make them rich. Imagine you sat down at a table with these new friends and said “What I’ve always wanted to do is become an actor. I dream of acting on stage and someday owning a theater company.” Imagine someone across the table from you said “Oh, my uncle directs on Broadway. I could call him and get you an audition.” Imagine someone else says “oh yeah, I used to act when I was young but it was never my dream — I could give you some pointers if you like.” Then — everybody sat down around a table and brainstormed more ways to get you acting tomorrow, and get you your own theater company soon after. Wow. Could you imagine the value in something like that? This book teaches you the purpose of a mastermind group, what sorts of questions the group should ask, and how to keep the group functioning smoothly. It got me thinking — I have several friends who also have home businesses, but we all do something a bit different. What if we all got together with the express purpose of trying to figure out ways to make more money?

So what’s the difference between a millionaire and a Maui millionaire? Well, Maui millionaires believe in abundance. They give away large amounts of money and feel great about it. They make big money but barely work if they don’t want to. They teach their kids how to make big money and then give it away and then make more. They have lots of love and time to go with their lots of money. They make the world a better place. This book really made me want to be a Maui millionaire. Now I just have to do my part. Besides the “simple six-step plan to become a Maui millionaire” outlined in Chapter 22 I also have access to the Maui millionaire wealth mentorship program online at http://www.mauimillionairebook.com. There are videos and articles and workshops for those who really want to become Maui Millionaires. See you in Maui!
