Big Island to Lanai Flying Trip

Lanai Recommendation: Lanai is a beautiful place but small with less resources and activities and places to visit. Nice for relaxing and getting away from real life. Not so great for seeing a lot of Hawaii.

My husband and his pilot friend flew from Hilo on the Big Island to Lanai on a weekend fishing trip in a tiny propeller plane our friend owned. They rented a 4WD and camped on the beach.

If you want to fly to Lanai you could charter a small plane or you could contact Aloha Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines to see what they are offering or reserve direct through Pacific Wings. You also could take a ferry from Maui to Lanai for a day trip.

A World War II Liberty Ship located at Shipwreck Beach (no swimming, too rough). Directions: If starting in Lanai City, follow Highway 44 north to the end of the road, then turn left on the dirt road near the lighthouse ruins. 4WD needed.
