Lahaina

June 23rd, 2004

Lahaina Town is in West Maui. More than 80% of all visitors to Maui check out Lahaina, so it is always crowded. Parking is hard to come by, especially where it is free (Front street and certain lots) so do Lahaina in the morning.

Lahaina Activities

Hale Kahiko (free thing to do)
A replica of a portion of a Hawaiian Village - located at Lahaina center.

Shopping
and shopping, and more shopping. It seems all of Front Street (the street that fronts the ocean in Lahaina) is dedicated to shops. There's also Wharf Cinema Center, Lahaina Cannery (a mall), and Whaler's Village. You'll often find free events at these places like free hula shows and hawaiian music.

Historic Lahaina Walking Tour (free thing to do)
Learn the history of this old whaling town the fun way.

Banyan Tree Park (free thing to do)
Lahaina has a Banyan tree that is so big it's shade covers almost an acre of land, so of course they built a park around it. This is a neat tree and a great picture-taking opportunity.

Night Life
Outside of Waikiki there really isn't much of a night life anywhere in Hawaii, but on Maui, Lahaina is a close second. There are bars and luaus and plenty of shows.

Royal Lahaina Resort

There's sometimes confusion regarding this resort, because people think it is in Lahaina. It is not. There are not many hotels actually in Lahaina, just some inns and rentals. The Royal Lahaina Resort is actually located on Kaanapali Beach, which is 3 miles north of Lahaina. The resort is actually a budget hotel in a good location.

Old Lahaina Luau

The Old Lahaina Luau is not the only luau in Lahaina, but it is arguably the best and most authentic luau in Lahaina. The website is all done in flash and is really hard to maneuver so just call if you want reservations.
