Barking Sands

July 3rd, 2004

barking sands beach

I spent my honeymoon at one of the military MWR Barking Sands Cottages on Barking Sands Beach. It was fantastic. The beach was long and completely empty with mild waves and warm water. There was no place for snorkeling but beach activities and body surfing were pretty good.

Most of the beach is located on a military base.

Public access to the beach on the military base is not always allowed. Call Visitor control at at 808-335-4221 to check.

Or, you could head past the base to Polihale Beach, which is the same beach but it is called something different at a disputed geographical point. The water is usually to rough for swimming but the beach is very long (15 miles) and wide.
