There is a lot to do on the Big Island, but you could be in for a lot of driving because it is so big. Do you have an itinerary for your first 7 days already? Is there stuff you want to do that is not on the itinerary?

Maybe another part of the Big Island would allow you to do more stuff without adding too much rush-rushing. You coiuld think about volcano area --- near the national park and plenty of hiking but NO beaches (except punaluu - about a half hour drive away)
