Body board beaches Hawaii Kai area

Probably gonna do 10 days or so just before Xmas and will be staying in Hawaii Kai (east of Diamond Head). I've never tried to get to the beaches in that area (except Hanama Bay) .... and wonder if there are any surfing/body boarding beaches away from Waikiki. Maybe wind surfing and lessons too. Thanks
