In addition, I know from past experience (living there) and research that everything else will cost more in Hawaii as well. In Indiana we have been able to put away about 150K each year since graduation. We know that this will not be possible in Hawaii but we are incredibly frugal (on the up side I intend to send my son to the University of Hawaii which I understand as really resonable tuition compared to many state schools). Moving to Oahu is so important to me that I made my wife promise to do so before I would marry her. Indeed, the memories of the North Shore surf were some of the most powerful emotions that kept me going through the hell and poverty of CRNA school.

: My wife and I are CRNA's and have job offers in Honolulu (I was stationed in Oahu when I was in the Navy and loved it there). The pay would be 140K for me and 120K per annum for her. In Indiana we earn around 120K apiece so it would be twenty thousand or so a year increase. Our main question involves how much it cost us to RENT on the North Shore (we own a modest home in Indiana which we are in the process of selling for about 120K). We do not wish to spend more than around $2,000 a month for rent. Our tastes are simple, but we want something with at least two bedrooms (we have an eight year old son) and that is not in a really high crime area. Also, our jobs in Honolulu will require each of us to commute four days per week. I am figuring about two hours each way does this sound right?
