I also have a 1994 Toyota Corolla with 300K miles that I want to bring. I am willing to spend up to around three thousand to bring it up to Hawaii's emission standards (it is sentimental to me as this car got us through grad school when we coudn't afford to buy a new vehicle).

: My wife and I are CRNA's and have job offers in Honolulu (I was stationed in Oahu when I was in the Navy and loved it there). The pay would be 140K for me and 120K per annum for her. In Indiana we earn around 120K apiece so it would be twenty thousand or so a year increase. Our main question involves how much it cost us to RENT on the North Shore (we own a modest home in Indiana which we are in the process of selling for about 120K). We do not wish to spend more than around $2,000 a month for rent. Our tastes are simple, but we want something with at least two bedrooms (we have an eight year old son) and that is not in a really high crime area. Also, our jobs in Honolulu will require each of us to commute four days per week. I am figuring about two hours each way does this sound right?
