I don't know the exact architecture so I don't want to tell you wrong. Small plantation style homes are pretty plentiful there though.

"Locals" is a pretty broad terms because you've got everyone from native Hawaiians to Chinese to Japanese to Korean to Portuguese to Caucasians (or "Haoles" as they're called in the islands). It's a definite melting pot of different cultures which makes it a diverse and some feel, more tolerant community.
