We got a 4WD Jeep Cherokee and needed the 4WD on the very first day to get to the bottom and then back of Wiapio Valley. At one point there was water a quarter of the way up the doors. We needed it again to go to Champagne Pool and then the Green Sand Beach. I was amazed that we didn't pop a tire or get stuck. We used it to summit Mauna Kea but would have been fine without it. The Big Island Rocks!
