Oahu & Big Island ~or~ Kauai & Big Island

Lisa's best Hawaii Travel Advice! - let me help you plan your best vacation to Hawaii ever!

My wife, 11 & 13 year old daughters, and I are coming to Hawaii in mid-July, 2003. My dilemma is that I have 4 free nights at the Waikiki Radisson on Oahu. However, it seems that unless you are not into crowds and shopping that one may have had enough of Oahu after 1 or 2 days. Is there a slower paced Oahu? We want to hike, snorkel, ride bikes, kayak, swim, surf, build sand castles, etc.

At the end of the week we are going to go to the BI to see the volcano, green sand beach, black sand beach, etc.

Two questions
1) Since we are looking for a laid-back vacation away from the crowds, should we skip the free nights on Oahu and head straight to Kauai or can we find what we are looking for on Oahu?

2) How many days should we spend on the BI if we want to see the above plus maybe a couple of other must-do places?
