: There are no active volcanoes on Kauai. Books mention the presence of an occasional centipede or scorpion but I've never seen one. I wouldn't worry about it. I don't THINK there are any blackor green sand beaches on Kauai.
: A must do, since you mentioned hiking, would be the first two miles of the Kalalau Trail...north end of the island where the road ends at Ke'e Beach.
