: Aloha, Faith: I have two 13 year old boys and we visited the islands with them for the first time when they were 12 years old, so I can understand your concern. We spent a week on Maui with them and a week on Kauai. They enjoyed both islands immensely, but they told us that Kauai was their favorite. This year we are taking them for a visit to the Big Island, which is the only island that has an active volcano, We predict that they will love the Big Island. If you really want to see lava then the Big Island is your only choice. There are plenty of fun things to do on the BI - enough to keep your 12 year old happy for a long time.
