Hi Jaco,

You need to know the Island of Hawaii is referred to as "the Big Island". This will help you immensely.

Kona side is hot, dry, very touristy.
Kohala Coast is hot, dry, pretty touristy, nice beaches, big luxury hotels.
Waimea is cool, sometimes rainy, old country area - plenty of b and bs I think.
Kau is hot, dry, and secluded.
Puna is rainy and cool some places - hot and somewhat rainy other ... look into Kapoho for hot - look into Volcano for cool.
Hilo is warm and rainy - great local town.
Honokaa is very small-town, and the gateway to Waipio.

With your desire to hangglide and scuba dive - you will probably want to be near Kailua-Kona, as that is where the action is. I would suggest
South Kona for you - somewhere around Kealakekua and Captain Cook.

Start looking around here:

Good luck, come on back if you have any specific questions!
