We can get winter storms that bring big surf, but most of the time you'll still be able to snorkel. What side of the Big Island will you be? In Kailua-Kona, try Kahaluu beach, or take a Boat tour to Kealakekua Bay (try this one http://www.andhawaii.com/hawaii/2002/102102.html)

In regards to the Mauna Kea tour -- are you sure you are going to the summit and not the visitor's center at the 9000 foot level? If you are going to the visitor's center, they have telescopes there -- nothing as big as what's on the summit, but probably bigger and a better view than you've ever seen before. - What tour company are you going with?

The luggage lockers are gone :-( another victim of Sep 11. But, according to the airport help line, if you are leaving anytime during that day, the airline will check your bags if there is someone at the ticket counter -- maybe try contacting your airline.

Have a great trip!!
