: A friend returned from living 3 years in the Hilo area and said some things that bothered me. 1. It is almost impossible to get cats into Hawaii, quarantined or not. I have checked the internet and learned there is only a 30 day (700. per cat) stay and not 3 months. 2. There are many bugs (poisonous centapedes etc.) everywhere that are even in your house and cannot be avoided. Pests that can kill a cat. 3. There are dogs everywhere, roaming, barking, keeping you awake at night. 4. There is a widespread "minor" burglary problem. If your car brakes down, don't leave it because it won't be there the next day. : I have always thought and read that the Windward Side was a peaceful place with no racism. It doesn't sound like that if I can't leave my car unattended, or people looking for drug money are breaking into my house! : If you have the time, please shed some light on these concerns. I would like to retire outside of Hilo but not if the picture my friend painted is true.
