: Holly, : I agree with the other comments. However, you will probably need to frequently remind yourself what you moved here for -- the ambience, the things that are free. Over half the people I know have 2 or more jobs (one has 5!)and still have to watch their spending closely. I know 2 MBAs working on charter fishing and diving boats in the daytime and waiting tables at night. I also know an MD who teaches powerlifting and has a massage practice, and a PhD microbiologist who grows coffee and makes jewelry to sell at farmers' markets. All of these people are satisfied with their life choices and do not regret that their income is less than a third of what it was in their old, more lucrative professions. However, the downside is that they can't afford to travel back to the mainland even if they were not working 14 hours a day. : I also have "lost" 6 friends in the last year who missed the things that only money can buy, dining at expensive restaurants, travel, and the like, and they decided to move to the mainland. : In short, it's a values decision. If there is some way you can try it out here for about a year and still preserve your ties to your present situation, that would be ideal. In any event, best of luck. It's a great adventure to even contemplate these lifestyle changes.
