Some Honolulu Tips For You............Posted by Neal N. on July 22, 19102 at 01:19:38: In Reply to: moving to Honolulu-help Posted by Holly on July 18, 19102 at 00:01:53:
![]() Holly, I was born and raised on Oahu. First of all, to get a general idea of the kinds of jobs available, be sure to check the two local newspapers online, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, and the Honolulu Advertiser, see below: http://starbulletin.com/classifieds/jobs.html http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/ (click on JOBS) Getting a job on Oahu, like anywhere else, will depend on your skillset, and your current profession. If you are a managerial type in a professional capacity, it could take a while to find something you are a good fit for. As Lisa mentioned, Hawaii is primarily made up of service industry positions (read: tourism-related). As far as apartments, the further you are from the Waikiki/Honolulu area, the lower your rents will be. Living in Waikiki will be akin to having an apartment in San Francisco/New York, i.e. traffic, noise, etc. If you need to "get away from it all", but stay close to the beach, you might want to consider the North Shore area (however a commute from the North Shore to Waikiki/Honolulu is a grind - though I've known people who've done it). Check the papers above for apartments as well. Life without a vehicle will not be easy on Oahu, especially if you like exploring. It can be done, but the public transport system (bus only) on Oahu may not be what you are used to. Hope this helps a bit! Aloha, Neal
