It will cost about $1000 to ship an SUV. TheBus system is extremely good - it can be done, but, of course, having a car would give you more freedom.

It's not that hard to get work, if you don't mind doing anything -- but it is hard to get one job that will support you, or a job in your field. Remember, almost all the jobs in the islands are service jobs and most don't pay what a similar job in the mainland would pay.

There are less expensive areas to live, close to different beaches - but anywhere in Honolulu/Waikiki will be expensive. Plus, if you don't live in Waikiki, but you work in Waikiki, the commute in is horrible.

Sorry, I don't know about the temporary work agencies or the hostel.
