: 1. Tourism - millions of people visit a year to see it and spend their money here. : 2. Jobs - Geologists who study it need staff and support. : 3. In my opinion, it keeps the island nicely rural - not everyone is willing to live on or develop parts of an island with an active volcano on it, therefore we get to keep at least one Hawaiian island the way it should be. - Of course, some people might not see this as a benefit.
