There is a beach within shuttle distance (anaehoomalu) and another great beach (Hapuna) on the same coast. For a beginner to learn to surf you would probably have to go into Kailua-kona though. The best fishing is on the Big Island too. Here's my Hilton Waikoloa review (picture link on the bottom) The Hilton on Waikiki beach is also great - plus you have Waikiki Beach right there - all your kids could hang out on that beach the entire week with plenty still to do, although you'd probably want to head up the windward coast for some snorkeling. As for Marriott - were there any specific timeshares you were looking at? I'm sure cooking your own food would help a lot, with all those kids :-)
