Posted by Lisa on June 14, 19102 at 04:21:23: Ok, I called the tour company, and here's what they said Chain of Craters road has been closed during the day for the last couple of weeks due to a wildfire in the National Park, so if it is closed they do the tour around the crater at the top (no lava) and have lunch at the volcano house and stop at the other sights in the park, plus they do a waterfall (either akaka or rainbow) and the orchid farm and the macadamia nut factory. If the road is open, they do all of the above plus go down chain of craters road to the lava flow. The lava is currently about a mile in from where the road ends, but the bus only stays down there for about 30 minutes, so you can not hike all the way out to it on the tour. If you were to go on your own, there is a possibility of seeing flowing lava, but only if conditions were right and safe, and you were willing to hike out and back. Lisa
