: I have heard that on Maui if we want to pitch a tent for the night, say along the highway between Ma'alea Bay and Lahaina somewhere or along the beachfront in kihei, all we'd have to do is stick a fishing pole in the sand and fish and we could tent there for the night. We want to be able to tent the odd night by the water when we are not booking into a hotel just for something different as we're backpacking around the islands. I once received a letter from an info bureau saying we could do this but lost the letter and wonder if regulations on this have changed. Thanks for your help with this. Pat & Jim Rainey
