My husband and I used United Airlines directly to Kona from LAX because they get you there a lot earlier, about 2:30pm. American Airlines is usually about 8:30pm for arrival in Kona, and you have no time to get your car, get to where your staying, and relax a little bit. We did not have any problems with United, and are planning another trip with them through Unitedvacations.com this December.
