- South and West Side Hotels and Condos
The home of Poipu, this is a a very popular visitor destination - hot and dry, and home to the excellent Poipu Beach. You won't get rained on much here, but you are at a disadvantage if you plan to spend a lot of time on the North Shore, as the drive will take you over an hour. This is the place to be in the winter months if you want to swim or snorkel, because the North Shore winter waves don't allow anyone but expert surfers in the water.
- East Side (Coconut Coast) Hotels and Condos
I include Lihue in the East side, and this is where you'll find Kapa'a as well. This is where your shopping and dining, and lodging deals will be. Kapaa especially is also a good middle ground for exploring both the North and South Shore of the island.
- North Shore Hotels and Condos
The North Shore is the home of the famous Princeville Resort, sleepy Hanalei, and countless sparkling beaches. Just remember that in the winter months, the water is only good for surfing on this side. The waves are too big for swimming.
