Your best bet on Kauai is to rent a car but there are several other options for more limited travel on the island.

Renting a Car on Kauai

You can rent a car at most of the major car rental companies (most at Lihue Airport only) like Budget and Thrifty (I have used Travelnow with good results), and there are also these options:

Kauai Scooter Scooter - moped and bike rentals in Nawiliwili Harbor, Lihue - perfect for cruise passengers
Coconut Coasters - bike rentals for use along Kauai's beautiful coastal path
Kauai Cycle and Tour Bicycle rentals
Outfitters Kauai Bicycles
Pedal and Paddle Bicycles

** Ray's Motorcyle rentals and Harper's Truck rental no longer appear to be operating on Kauai

Bus Service

There is one bus on Kauai offering limited service- I can't recommend it to visitors.

Many hotels provide airport shuttles - check with yours.
