Oh, That Winter Weather

The and Hawaii ... Travel Ezine, dated 01/07/01, by Lisa Weber

---Oh, that Winter Weather,--- It is winter right now in Hawaii folks, and oh boy -- is it gorgeous. Every time I go outside, I remark to myself how nice the weather is this winter. We haven't had very much rain, and the humidity is not bad. Standard days have been about 82 degrees, with a very light, flower-scented breeze. Evenings have actually been pretty cool (60ish?) , which happens on clear nights, but that's all the better sleeping weather.

Winter really is a good time to plan a visit. The airlines and most hotel's low seasons are November (excluding Thanksgiving) to mid-December, and January through March. This is when you will find hundreds of dollars in savings on airline tickets, and a minimum $10 a night savings on lodging. Besides that, the beaches will be less crowded, as will the tours, stores, and activities. Plan a trip soon, the humpback whales will be around to greet you.

---Hawaiian Word of the Week--- pau - (pow) - done, finished, over.

Pau is a very important word to know, as it is very commonly peppered into the English language. You will probably hear it on a visit. "Are you pau with that?" -- Are you done with that? "I'll be over when I am pau hana" -- I'll be over when I am done at work.

---Article Watch---

This weeks article is about 2 Outrigger hotels. Outrigger is a large chain of hotels in Hawaii, with choices on almost all islands. Recently, some of the hotels have taken on the name Ohana, rather than Outrigger, but they are still affiliated. Ohana means family in Hawaiian, and all of the Ohana hotels are very decently priced, many with kitchenettes -- great for families. The Outrigger and Ohana website is available here http://www.outrigger.com/.

The article is from a visitor who stayed at the Ohana Hobron, and the Outrigger Coral Seas, both on Oahu. She liked both of them -- and managed to get an unbelievable rate of $36 a night for the Coral Seas. The article is here epinions and I believe the Entertainment Book she is talking about is available here Entertainment book
