Featured Links - Aloha everyone, Jurassic Park III and Planet of the Apes, two of the newest films out, were both filmed in Hawaii at least partially - so if you go see them keep an eye out for our great scenery. The scenes in Planet of the Apes with the stark, old-lava background was filmed on the Big Island at the Kalapana side of the lava flow. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ 01. --- Art in Hawaii ---Art in Hawaii is normally tied to the land or ocean in some way. You'll see ocean and mountain scenes, turtle carvings, dolphin sculptures, fish pictures, flowered fabric, lava photographs, plays and shows featuring Hawaiian deity themes, and lei creations.One of my favorite activities when we go to Kona is to wander around in the Wyland gallery (the guy who paints all the underwater ocean scenes on the sides of buildings). He has many galleries in the islands. There are also less-expensive galleries or local artist garages where you could find a momento of Hawaii from your trip. I have a very pretty, decent-sized painting of angelfish I found in Pahoa, framed, for $20.
