Aloha everyone, it's been another busy week. The weather has been great on the Big Island. Soft rain at night - hot sunshine during the day. Yesterday the hubby and I went to the lava flow - the surface flows are going strong! There is no lava entering the ocean now, so no steam plume though. Either next week or the week after I will put pictures from the trip up and include a link here, so keep an eye out.

01. --- Cruises in Hawaii ---

Cruises in Hawaii are becoming an increasingly affordable way see the islands. Currently, the most popular cruises are the circle island tours. These are the ones that spend one day at a port on each of the major islands, except for the Big Island, which has two ports to stop in. These tours normally last about 7 days, and are location restricted by the availability of deep-water ports on the islands.

Normally, your cruise price will cover your room, most of your food, and on-board activities and entertainment. Cruises are good when you have a fixed amount of money to spend, just remember - you may have to pay for activities on land, and you may be expected to tip boat employees at the end of the cruise. Also, airfare to your starting destination is normally not covered.

One disadvantage of the cruises are the short time in island ports - usually one day. Many people get around this by flying in to Honolulu a few days early (if that is their starting destination), and exploring Oahu before the cruise starts. There are also cruises that leave from the West Coast.

For a truly Hawaiian experience, my favorite cruise line is American Hawaii Cruises. They have Hawaiian culture and and art programs that are fascinating.

---Hawaiian Word of the Week---

niele - (nee el ay) - to keep asking questions, inquisitive, to quiz

Niele is one of those hawaiian words you hear used in pidgin, or peppered into English. If you hear it used on everyday conversation, it normally means nosy.
