This is about what the end of Chain of Craters road within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park looks like now. Highway 137 and Chain of Craters road used to meet; connecting lower puna and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. About 10 years ago the lava decided to flow that way effectively covering the road completely for a distance of about 12 miles. This picture shows where Chain of Craters now dead-ends into that lava. |
