Halema'uma'u (hahleemah-oomah-oo) crater is within Kilauea Caldera in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. You can walk right up to it - and there are still authentic ancient Hawaiian Ceremonies conducted on its edge. This picture was taken on a cold, foggy day; and the sulfur emissions from the crater itself were high - giving the picture that hazy look. Notice the offerings left for Pele in the bottom left corner. |
