Low Cost Things to Do on Oahu

Most activities cost under $10

  • (note - if you are looking to save money on Oahu, check out the Go Oahu Card and the Custom Oahu Explorer Pass for activities, and the Hawaii Entertainment Book for activities and meal discounts

  • Diamond Head Hike
Diamond is an extinct crater, and the most recognized landmark in all of Hawaii. The hike to the top is fairly easy, and gives incredible views of Waikiki and the ocean.

    USS Bowfin Submarine Museum Park
In Pearl Harbor, right across the parking lot from the Arizona Memorial
Definitely recommended - you can actually walk on and tour the cramped World War II submarine and the artifacts in the museum will wow even kids.

    Honolulu Academy of Arts
    900 South Beretania Street, Honolulu
The only general art museum in the state, the Academy represents art from cultures all over the world

    Bishop Museum
    1525 Bernice Street, Honolulu
The Bishop museum is an incredible testament to Polynesian culture throughout the world. The building is huge and crammed full of polynesian and hawaiian island artifacts and pictures. Kids will enjoy the full size sperm whale replica, with one side cut-away to see the bones and the space/outdoor exhibits next door.

    Outrigger Canoeing
On Waikiki Beach - check with the booths.

    Waikiki Aquarium
    Small but complete aquarium

    Hanauma Bay
One of the most visited attractions on all the islands, Hanauma Bay is inexpensive - and amazing. It is a marine life sanctuary within a half-collapsed old volcanic crater. The bay is perfect and teeming with fish that are not scared of you at all. Be forewarned, *everybody* goes here and it can be crowded.

    Hawaii Trail and Mountain Club
This club hikes a different trail on Oahu every weekend and they invite visitors to participate for a donation. The web site has good hiking information on other islands too.

    Honolulu Horse and Carriage Ride
    Waikiki
    Horse drawn tours of Waikiki

    Dole Plantaion
    64-1550 Kamehameha Highway, Wahiawa
Admission to the plantation is free, but the largest maze in the world (shaped like a pineapple) will cost

    The Imax Waikiki
    Waikiki
Just like Disneyland, the big, big screen.

    Don Ho's Island Grill
    Waikiki
Stop by here to eat and be entertained by the legendary Don Ho.

    Honolulu Zoo
at the corner of Kapahulu Ave. and Kalakaua Blvd
