Last Minute Flying

It used to be that if you were flying at the last minute, you had no choice but to let the airlines squeeze every last cent out of you, but the Internet has changed that too. As I mentioned before, Priceline probably works best with last minute flights that would be worth nothing if they were empty - and the Internet offers a few other options too. The airlines specials pages that are on the prior page are a good place to start, and there's also:

11thHourvacations.com
They say "Almost every plane has an empty seat at take off. Most hotels and cruise lines have empty rooms. Why can't these be yours?". They have plenty of great specials posted, and say more are posted daily.

LastminuteTravel.com
A very complete page offering much more than just airfare, that also can search travel agencies to get you the best prices.

I have done a precursory check of the prices available at both pages - and they are unbelievable. For example, full airfare and 5 nights at a top hotel in Waikiki for $744 per person from Seattle. That's like getting the airfare for free. The risk is that everything is non-refundable, but if you are traveling at the last minute there is less of a chance this will matter.
