Big Island Hotels and Condos

  • Kona Hotels and Condos
Kona, located on the leeward (west) side of the Big Island, encompasses Kailua-Kona, Keauhou, North Kona, South Kona, Kaloko, and Kealakekua. It is a very popular tourist destination, for it's hot, dry weather and wonderful ocean activities.

  • Hilo Side Hotels and Condos
Hilo, located on the windward (east) side of the Big Island, is the county seat but not so popular with visitors because of the rain and lack of traditional beaches. It is closer to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and windward attractions such as Akaka Falls and Waipio Valley than Kona, and is representative of the beauty of a rainforest. Also included in Hilo Side Hotels are Puna (Volcano) area lodging, and Hamakua Coast Lodging.

  • Kohala Coast Hotels and Condos
The Kohala Coast (also called the Gold Coast) of the Big Island is a sea of old, black lava punctuated by hotel and resort-made islands of green grass, gorgeous beaches, and waving palm trees. The weather is practically guaranteed to be hot and dry (windy at times) and the whale-viewing is unparalleled during the winter months. I think it's called the gold coast because the hotels are so darn expensive, but deals can be found. Also included in Kohala Coast Hotels are Waimea and Waikoloa lodging.

  • The Best Hawaii Hotel Reviews
A new concept in hotel reviews - my sister is going through every hotel and condo in Hawaii and reading all the reviews she can find for them. She then condenses the information into numbers and how many liked or disliked what. The result is a pretty concise picture of the good and bad points of each hotel.
