Kauai is For Movie Buffs

The amount of movies made on Kauai is amazing - not to mention TV shows and commercials! Kauai has the perfect combination of green plains, large valleys, long, perfect beaches, incredible coastlines, and local towns and villages to have something for every show based in a tropical paradise.

A few of these shows are:

  • Jurassic Park 3
  • Baywatch-Hawaii
  • Six Days, Seven Nights
  • George of the Jungle
  • Dinosaurs
  • Fantasy Island
  • Mighty Joe Young
  • Outbreak
  • The Lost World
  • Jurrassic Park
  • Honeymoon in Vegas
  • Lord of the Flies
  • Lady in White
  • Throw Mama from the Train
  • The Thorn Birds
  • Uncommon Valor
  • Body Heat
  • Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • Acapulco Gold
  • King Kong
  • Lt Robinson Crusoe
  • Gilligans Island (pilot)
  • Blue Hawaii
  • Wackiest Ship in the Army
  • Forbidden Island
  • Jungle Heat

And that's not even all of them! If you are able to take a trip to Kauai keep an eye out for familiar sites or you could take a Kauai movie tour to visit these sites and be shown by a guide where exactly everything was filmed.

Incidentally - there is plenty of filming going on on the other islands too - the newest being Boarding House, North Shore on Oahu. WaterWorld was filmed of the Northern Coast of the Big Island and some of the new Planet of the Apes was filmed in Kalapana on an old lava flow. Plus, Hawaii 5-0, Magnum PI, and One West Waikiki were all mostly done on Oahu. Basically, the same weather, water, beaches, people, and activities that bring visitors back over and over again appear to draw Hollywood back just as often.

    Have a great vacation! Lisa
