    Kauai Underground Guide

7 reasons this should be your low-tech guide to Kauai

    • The Content
This book has it all, everything you want to know about Kauai. It is completely up-to-date, with 17 editions having been released between the first in 1980 and the latest in 2003. It chronicles what to expect, what to pack, the weather, getting here, different types of lodging, different sides of the island, activities around the island, gifts, entertainment, water sports, maps, adventures, and eating.

The book is set up intuitively, making reading a breeze. For example, the Beach Adventures section is broken down into Eastern Shore, North Shore, South Shore, and Westside, with beach safety and warnings about the Hawaiian sun at the end. There are informative charts, like the restaurants section that shows at a glance what kind of food is offered, when, and how much it's going to cost you.

    • The Details
There are some really great tidbits of information in here that normally can only be learned the hard way, but the author shares them with you. For example, in the what to pack section she imparts how bags can best be packed to avoid loss, and how to make it easier on yourself if a bag is lost. Helicoptor safety records are also detailed, to help make you make wise decisions. Included are tips to make your photographs better - like looking for the horizon. Also, there are many Internet addresses included of helpful web sites about Hawaii and getting here for those of us who use the Internet. :-)

    • The Truth
You don't want smoke and mirrors designed only to lure you. You want the truth about what to expect and what is really best. This book gives you exactly that. You'll learn what rivers are too crowded and why there are no more motorized boats exploring the Napali Coast. You'll find out what creatures to avoid in the water and what beaches require shoes.

    • The Quality
This book is flexible, but strong. Each page is that strong glossy kind that won't rip in half if you drop the book at the beach. Most pages have gorgeous color pictures that are not only pretty to look at, they are designed to guide you to the correct spot on the island as well. The maps are color and detailed enough to get you around the island easily.

    • The Author
This book wasn't written by a company, or a group, or a corporation. This book was written by a real person and her family who live on Kauai. Lenore Horowitz is the author, and she uses her unique local insight and her experiences with her family to point you in the right direction.

    • The Kids
A portion of the sales price of each and every book sold is donated to one of 5 different children's charities on Kauai.

    • The Music
Included free with every book is a CD Hawaiian music sampler from Keali'i Reichel, easily one of the finest Hawaiian music artists today. The songs are relaxing and beautiful, and very indicative of good Hawaiian music
