Hawaii Vacation Rentals
June 22nd, 2004
Hawaii vacation rentals are easily found and rented over the web; you just need to know where to look and what to look out for. You can find some great deals on rentals and even save money on your trip by cooking some of your own meals (just beware, the grocery prices in Hawaii may leave you stunned - if you can stand the thought of paying $6.00 for a gallon of milk then you may be OK).
Be sure to check all rental rates for fees and taxes! A room rate of $150 a night can look good until fees and taxes bring it up to $180 a night. This actually goes for vacation rentals and hotels, since both have to pay taxes on their earnings. Hotels will probably charge you for parking too.
The lowest price vacation rentals will be found in areas that are not considered "touristy" because they are far from beaches, in residential areas, or in rainy areas. For example, rentals in Upcountry Maui and rentals in middle Puna on the Big Island average under $100 a night easily. Most rentals will offer discounts for a full week or more rental.
If you have a decent budget for lodging you can find vacation rentals that would blow away most hotel rooms. Rentals right on the beach are common. There are rentals on every island where the porch steps lead to the beach and about 10 strides will get you in the water.
When pursuing a vacation rental it is very important that you start early. The most-desirable rentals are probably booked a year out, especially during summer and around the holidays.
