Go! Airlines Review – I flew Go! from the Big Island to Oahu and Back

Summary: I liked flying Go!, it was clean, comfortable, and the lines were short. I plan on flying them from now on.

Earlier this month my son and I took a trip to Oahu for a short vacation. My husband was already there on business so we got the hotel room free and a week swimming at Waikiki Beach for practically free is too good to pass up.

I went right to Go!’s website to order my tickets. The website was easy to navigate and the tickets were easy to buy. We were able to get a $39 fare for the trip there and a $49 fare for the way back. Talk about a great deal! In the old days, before Go! came in the other interisland airlines had managed to hike their prices all the way up to $79 one way as the absolute cheapest flight you could get, and even that price was hard to get unless you flew at undesireable times and booked really early.

I paid my money and got a confirmation number by e-mail. The day of the trip we were good little passengers and made sure to arrive very early. We needn’t have worried. We were the only people checking in and everything was easy as pie.

The planes are a bit smaller than the ones Aloha and Hawaiian usually fly, but still big enough to feel like a real plane. The inside of the plane was new and sparkly and clean and comfortable. There was a beverage service but nothing was free, you had to pay $1.50 for a soda. That was fine, we didn’t need soda for our 40 minute flight … or maybe it was a little shorter. It seemed shorter.

When we got to Oahu we unloaded on the tarmac and walked across the open air to the building. No problem. My son was fascinated as he could see all the other airplanes (we are in an airplane and rocket fascination phase). We were over in a corner of the airport away from the other interisland carriers which was nice. Baggage service was easy, there weren’t people everywhere, and our shuttle still found us fine.

Cut to Friday afternoon, the end of our vacation and the shuttle brings us back. I was worried, traffic had been horrendous and even though I left the hotel at 1:45 we didn’t actually get to the airport till 3:50 for a 4:20 flight. No problem! Again, we were loading from that small corner of the airport, there was no one in line, getting through TSA was an absolute breeze because it was so relaxed and we even had time to buy some snacks and visit the bathroom. Thanks Go!

Now, I wouldn’t advise planning to get there late just because you are flying Go!, but my experience shows they may be more forgiving if you just can’t make it on time.

I was a little disappointed that on the flight over there were only about 12 people on the flight but happy to see the flight back was almost full. If we don’t support Go!, they could disappear, and I’m afraid our interisland airfare prices will skyrocket to make up for Aloha and Hawaiian trying to match Go!’s prices for so long.

I flew Go! for the first time and was told that I would be sorry, but let me tell you that it was the best inter island flight I have ever taken – and very fast. The service was great and the announcement was super local. Loved it. I got bumped on the return on Hawaiian and go said to just come to the counter and they would accommodate us and they did. Remarkable service. I recommend Go! and will only go that way from now on. Keep up the great service “Go!” and no one can tell me different and I will always highly recommand Mesa airlines. Mahalo and aloha.

Check out yelp.com for a lot more reviews – 27 bad ones compared to the two inexplicably good ones here. Thing have gone way, way downhill at Go! Here’s my review, written from the passenger terminal at HNL, where I’m stranded.

Wow! I have never run into a less competent airline. These people couldn’t run a bicycle-rickshaw taxi service, let alone an airline. If you’re spending a lot of money to come and enjoy the islands, don’t do what I’ve done, which is book interisland flights through go. They’ll be at least an hour late most of the time. However, today one flight left 12 minutes early, and so I missed my connection. I watched my aircraft pull away as I was arriving on another – they couldn’t hold it for two minutes. Why?
Because they don’t care. At all! Not even a little. No apology for allowing an aircraft to leave 12 minutes early, consigning me to an later flight. This is, fortunately, the last flight I’ve booked with Go, and I will never, ever book another flight with them, or with any other Mesa Air Group airline.

Interesting. I did go to yelp and there were a lot of bad reviews compared to the number of good reviews. I wonder why that is? I’ve never had the experience that many of these people have. Maybe people are more likely to search out a way to review something when they have had a bad experience.

    I don’t know.

When I go to the reviews for Hawaiian airlines, something I notice right off the bat is that most of the reviews for hawaiian are not for interisland, but rather for across the pacific. Also, hawaiian seems more likely to try to make up for issues by handing out upgrade vouchers.

Based on my own pwersonal experience, I still recommend either airline.

Okai guys soo I never felt the need to write a review on a airline before I usually do interisland trips to visit family and I try to find the cheapest deals on flight to save money I had flew Go! Before when it first started and it waz fine notin to complain about or notin to be excited about. This time was a totaly different story I was flying from kona(koa) to Honolulu (hnl) and had arrived at the airport 45 min before my flight , when I checked in I was notified that the flight has gonna be delayed my original departure was 4:50 they gave us a estimate of leaving at 6:30 I said to myself this is a interisland flight how do I get a almost 2 hr delay! I went to get a bit to eat and than went back to the person at the counter to see if I could jus change my flight for free because of the inconvience it would cause the people picking me up the simply said they can’t do notin unless there is a 4 hr delay and said sorry…… They said there was a flight coming in ontime at 6:10 and that I could go on standby by simply standing at the gate and asking the person if I could get on( showed no organization). I asked why can’t the people from ur delayed flight get on that plane since it was going to the same place and the counter person told mrthey rather delay 1 flight than 2 which in my head said they didn’t care for there customers that had been waiting for almost 2 hrs. The plane expected to arrive at 6:10 came in at 6:20 and was in the air at around 6:30 I was a le to get on unfortunately when I did I still didn’t see my original plane that was sappose to be coming at 6:30 who knows what time that plane left kona…. Than on the plane our flight attendent couldn’t even explain things well she could explain what would happen to peoples bags that were on the orginal flight. She had to acually say ,” ohh u know what I mean” when I was confused about what was happening to my checkin. In the end I arrived to Honolulu at 7:20 and my bag didn’t get here till 7:45 because it was on my original plane. I know this is just my experience and perhaps they were jus off there game tha. Day but because off all the drama I felt I had to share it
