Oahu Crime Question

question
My interest in Hawaii came from the Aloha Parade in Ohua in September, I spent some time last winter looking for a Thanksgiving Day Parade in Hawaii and turned up nothing but then I clicked on a link and found another Hawaiian that e-mailed me and gave me some information so now my husband and I can try and make travel arrangements and hopefully come next year. Our main objective is to take lots of photos of the floats and learn about them, We both like photography. He is the cam, man and I like to do the stills. What I mostly want to know is about the crime statistics if you would know, Just areas by name or location that we should avoid. Would we be crazy to try and stay right on the parade course? Well I know with your site being so popular you probably don't have much time yourself so thank you for reading my e-mail and any suggestions you may offer will be appreciated.

answer
I would not be concerned about the crime on Oahu. Since the parade route is normally right through Waikiki, I would definitely stay there!

Crime in Hawaii does occur, and visitors especially need to be wary of car break-ins and theft of, say, their wallet under their towel while they go swim in the ocean. That said, Hawaii's rates of violent crime are normally lower than other areas. I would have no fears walking down the streets of Waikiki at night.

Also, I can't think if one place on Oahu that you would need to be warned to stay away from because just setting foot in the area is inviting a crime against you. Hawaii just isn't like that.

Aloha, Lisa
