Let’s talk about renting cars, inter-island flights, maps, and how to get where you are going when you get to Hawaii. Don’t worry, it’s easy. If you ever get lost you can just orient yourself with the ocean on one side and the mountain on the other and drive. You’ll end up somewhere eventually. All the islands are like that. Just remember these terms: mauka (towards the mountain) and makai (towards the ocean) and then when someone tells you “turn Mauka at the next road” you’ll know what to do.
