Rainbow Falls State Park

Rainbow Falls is located off Rainbow Drive in Hilo. Drive up Wainuenue, bear to the right on Rainbow Drive, and the parking lot will be on your right. The walk to the lookout is very short, about 50 feet only. In fact, besides being the easiest waterfall on the island to walk to, the falls are practically in downtown Hilo - so if you are in Hilo, make sure you make a side trip for pictures.

If you go in the morning you may be rewarded with the rainbows - the morning sun shines through the mist from the falls.



There is an easy walkway to the left of the falls which allows people to get up close to the top. Don't jump over the falls though -- the last guy who did that had to be medivac-ed out of the pool with a broken back. There is no easy way to get to the pool at the bottom.
