Kahaluu Beach
Kahaluu Beach is located in Kailua-Kona, at the South end of Ali'i Drive. It is actually properly spelled kahalu'u, and pronounced ka ha loo-oo. It is a dark sand beach with a relatively small sand area but a large, reef-protected snorkeling area. Since it is one of only a few sandy beaches in town, it can get quite crowded every day.
Snorkeling at Kahaluu is good. There are reef fish close to the rocks and larger fish out towards the break. The beach is a popular place to see large sea turtles - they come right up and feed off the rocks.

The view at low tide of the beach and Kona above from way out on the rocks. This was a bad, disposable camera so it messed with the colors a bit - the actual scene is much more vibrant and beautiful like the next picture.

The beach is located at the 5 mile marker on Alii Drive, next to the Ohana Keauhou Beach Resort.
