Ahuena Heieau

Ahuena Heiau (temple) (What is a Heiau) is located on a tiny peninsula across from Kamakahonu Beach and the King Kam Hotel on the Big Island. It is sacred and historically significant because it was King Kamehameha the Great's personal temple. You can't go inside or even step on the temple grounds, but you can get close enough to look at it. This is no tourist trap - it's actual history of the Hawaiians from the early 1800s.
