andHawaii.com was born from a desire of mine to learn HTML, but quickly turned into a very popular Hawaii-visitor destination. It has been around since February 1997, originally under the domain name volcanoalley.com.

I've lived here on the Big Island since 1995. My husband John, and my son Joe, are my constant traveling companions.

My son (5 yrs old at the time of this writing) was born here and taught himself to swim at the Hot Ponds at 2. He's been stung by a jellyfish at Hapuna Beach (stay out when the winds are onshore and whipping). He's been within about 4 feet of hot, flowing lava several times. He loves to Boogie Board. He jet-skis, snorkels, drives boats, and jumps off the very highest jump at Coconut Island and the very highest jump at the Fairwinds Boat.

So, growing up in Hawaii can be really good for you ... but then he's only been sledding once. He's never had a white Christmas. He lives 5000 miles from our nearest family. And so, we are planning a move to Coeur D'Alene Idaho. (early 2009) I'll still write about Hawaii when we get there. I'll still love Hawaii. I'll still share what I know. Promise. :)

All those pictures of me on the right are pre-Joe ... since I started the site in 1997 I was updating it for 6 years before he was around. The pictures on the bottom were all taken in 2008 - when he was 5.

I do almost all the writing, editing, advising, sifting and sorting there is to do with the site on my own. I'm starting to hire out a few tasks but if something is not written by me on the site I'll be sure to let you know.
