For those free in the fall

Hawaii is great year-round, but prices fall in autumn is an article to remind you that even though most of the world is going back to school, Hawaii still has the same great weather and tons of activities in Septemer, October, and November. Sure, the average temperature may go down a degree or two, but we welcome it! The ocean temperature is still warmer than what I set my airconditioner to - so if you don't have kids, or you homeschool the kids, or you have flexible schedules, plan a less crowded Hawaii trip in the fall.

Is it easy to find work in Hawaii

qeustion
Is it easy to find work in Hawaii?

answer
Well, it depends on what kind of work you are looking for. Right now it is extremely easy to find work in almost all of the service sectors - just walk in and apply. Construction and real estate jobs and landscape and tree nursery jobs are also booming. Teachers are in great demand, as are nurses. However, some industries are not represented here in Hawaii, because we are so isolated. We have tourism, agriculture, some technology, and that's it.

hawaii job market

question
Lisa,
first, thank you for the informative site you have! I am contemplating on moving to Ohau. Yes, I have been there a few times and actually spent a week trying to act like a local doing everything I would probably be doing while living there. The only concern I really have is the job market. I was wondering if you would be so kind as to share what you know of about the job market.

answer
Well, you are right to be concerned. Although sky-rocketing real estate costs may have pushed job market concerns to the side recently, jobs are usually the biggest problem with moving to or living in Hawaii. Many people have to hold multiple jobs to maintain their lifestyle because the cost of living is higher here in Hawaii than in the mainland *and* jobs here generally pay less than comparable jobs on the mainland.

However, right now the job market is smoking. There are tons of jobs and the lowest unemployment rate in the nation here in Hawaii. New industries to the islands such as farming (other than sugar) and technologies are really taking off. So, depending on what line of work you are in, things look pretty good right now.

Oahu is generally where the most jobs are, and also the highest prices .. oh, and the most people and traffic.

2006 Hawaii Entertainment Books are available

The 2006 Hawaii Entertainment Books are available, you can order one now but it may not ship for a week or two. I haven't received mine yet so I can't review it, but from past experience the coupons are all pretty similar every year. I've ordered it for 5 or 6 years running and have seen a few coupons disappear avery year and a few new coupons start. I will so a review asa soon as I can, probably in mid-September, early October, after I get my book. Here's my 2005 review. Lisa
